The Canadian Human Rights Commission has mutated into a kangaroo court that engages in McCarthyesque witch hunts against individuals it percieves to hold politically incorrect beliefs. There is no judge, no jury, no right to representation, no accountability. You’d have better luck defending yourself before a military tribunal. The official policy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission is that freedom of speech is an “American concept” that has no validity in Canada. Members of the CHRC routinely scour the Canadian blogosphere in search of offending points of view and then leave inflammatory comments via psuedonyms, ( a practice known as “sock-puppetry”) Later, lawsuits are filed using those same inflammatory comments as evidence. In many cases, the evidence against plaintiffs is not presented – they are merely informed that there have been “complaints”. You can read more about it here, and contribute to the legal funds of the latest round of CHRC victims if you’re interested.
I’m not particularly fond of the political viewpoints of many of the plaintiffs and former victims of HRC witch hunts, but I’m definitely fond of freedom of speech, even for people whose opinions I despise. I don’t acknowledge the authority or the validity of the Canadian Human Rights Commission and I wish nothing but good luck to those Canadian bloggers who have been forced to take this battle to court.
